“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Proverbs 16:9
The Lord has made it clear in my heart what my next steps should be. I am thrilled to share that I will be moving to Nicaragua in June 2017 to start a job with Amigos for Christ. Here’s my part in God’s story.
It is only human nature to plan and think about our futures. In fact, we are taught through school to figure out a plan for our life. Early on in college we are faced with choosing a major that will guide us to a job and hopefully a career. When I decided to major in Sports Administration, I was unsure of what jobs or careers would be available. Worry, fear and doubt started to creep into my heart. The Lord took over when I was called to sponsor a child through Compassion.
That led me on a mission trip to Nicaragua where I would meet the child I had been sponsoring for the past year. I worked alongside an organization while in Nicaragua, Amigos for Christ. Through a seven year program, Amigos helps rural communities of Nicaragua develop essential and healthy living circumstances through clean water, education, health care, and economic development. Relationships are of significant value because it helps sustain long term strength within these communities.
It is also important for connections to be made between Americans on week-long mission trips and the members of local communities. Building cross-cultural relationships is easier said than done. During my first week in Nicaragua, sports such as soccer, baseball, and basketball allowed for these bonds to happen. With little use of words, I built relationships with Nicaraguans through sport.
I felt God nudging my heart to look into what life may look like if I were to serve alongside Amigos long-term. Through prayer and discussion with staff, it became clear that this was just what God had planned for me.
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
I have never felt more alive than during the time I have spent working with Amigos. As I prepare for my move to Nicaragua, I will need support both financially and spiritually. Please consider teaming up with me and making a monthly contribution to help me take these next steps. I’d love to hear from you if you want to hear more details on specifics of what I will be doing or more about Amigos overall. Contact me at 513-235-9776 or at email@example.com.
