During my first visit to Nicaragua in the spring of 2012, my heart came alive with an excitement I had never before experienced. Shortly after that, I recognized the hand of God clearing the way for me to pursue the ministry that has ignited my passion in such a profound way. After several months of discernment and preparation, and much to my delight, that process led me to make the move to Nicaragua in October of 2012 to begin fulltime ministry with Amigos for Christ.
Each year, Amigos for Christ hosts hundreds of volunteers to help their ministry across a variety of areas, from water and sanitation infrastructure to economic and educational development. As a part of the Missions Team, I both help facilitate the projects of these volunteer mission teams as well as work alongside the Nicaraguan staff to develop each project over the long term.
In order to support my work with the Amigos team, I am in the process of raising $16,000 to cover my room and board, transportation, health insurance and monthly stipend during my two years here. If you feel led to support me, you can do so below. If you’d like to learn a little more about me, please feel free to visit my blog (http://www.tumblr.com/blog/cortneynewell).
I have long desired to utilize the gifts and experiences with which God has blessed me to help restore wholeness to the relationships that exist between the developed and developing worlds. Through this ministry, God has blessed me with the opportunity to minister at the intersection of these two worlds and serve alongside those seeking to navigate it. It is my hope that I will live in a constant state of sharing and learning with my Nicaraguan neighbors, growing together in community and love for the Lord, and that I can facilitate the same for both the mission teams who partner with us and those who support me from home.
